The evolution from

interim cover to

all-encompassing

HSE support

Case Study

Who We Helped

Midland Lead manufacture and supply lead all over the world in the construction, healthcare and heritage sectors. The company produces 20,000 tonnes of lead a year, and with that comes some interesting health and safety demands!

Challenge

Initially, we worked with Midland Lead to offer interim health and safety support when the in-house HSE coordinator left the company. Construction, the nature of work that Midland Lead carry out and the sites that they operate on, are very high risk in the H&S stakes. Which is where Kedleston Safety came in!

Interim HSE support in the absence of an in-house professional

Full assessment and implementation of business’s HSE needs

Assistance in recruiting and onboarding

Training, advising and supporting in-house advisor on an ongoing basis

Solution

We ensured that everything was running smoothly and that no health and safety stone was left unturned! Our role soon evolved from interim cover to an extension of the team with an all-encompassing remit giving full HSE support on an ongoing basis.

We worked with Midland Lead to offer audit support; perform risk assessments; deliver health and safety planning; assist in management review meetings; advise on the correct controls and measures; ensure procedures are in place for employee lead poisoning testing; and carry out noise and transport training – among many other things!

The requirements of the business became so great that Midland Lead required a full time health and safety advisor. We worked with the management team to recruit for this role and helped with the training and onboarding of their new team member once appointed.

The Future

Our role has evolved once again. We now work alongside their new recruit to offer support and advice, perform external audits and carry out HSE compliance and inspections.
